HOW LONG THE JOURNEY TAKES

Speed boat takes about 45 minutes and motorized boat about 90 minutes to reach the Chimpanzee Sanctuary from Entebbe.

We arrange both half and full day trips.

Expect to sight monitor lizards, raspberries, chimpanzee clinic, and enjoy photography opportunities.

VIEWING TIMETABLE

The chimpanzee sanctuary has three chimpanzee viewing options.

  • Morning chimpanzee viewing.
  • Afternoon chimpanzee viewing.
  • Full day chimpanzee viewing.

Note that full day guests will view two feeding sessions on a fairly raised platform along the edge of the sanctuary hedge.

We encourage you to always book your trip in advance to ensure timely preparations and arrival at the sanctuary.

AGE RESTRICTIONS

Guests of all ages are accepted at the sanctuary. It’s the only place where children under the age of 17 are allowed to witness the Chimpanzees.

WHAT TO EXPECT

During your visit you can participate in the following activities:

  • Chimpanzee viewing
  • Chimpanzees feeding
  • Shopping at the island craft/gift shop (Optional)
  • Birdwatching
  • Swimming on the equator line on Lake Victoria en-route (For swimming experts only)
  • Community tour.
  • Visiting the fishing village.

Get a chance to get your hands dirty by being part of the feeding team. This is an occasion for you to feed the chimpanzees from the platform.

On top of being suitable to feed your favorite chimp, you will also watch as the chimps excitedly try and gain your attention to accept food (this is done through a guidance program by the sanctuary authorities)

Packed food and drinks to the island are banned, prompted by the difficulty of controlling waste. The ban seeks to apply Chimpanzee Trust’s Environmental Management Policy and System and we request every guest abides by it.

WHAT TO CARRY

  • Camera with fully charged battery.
  • Thick jacket since it gets cold during a boat cruise.
  • Sunglasses to protect against strong winds or sunlight.
  • Cap or Hat with a string would be best.
